BIKARITY

After a banking career in Australia, Simon decided to move back to Myanmar. He successfully helped launch a trendy restaurant, the Rangoon Tea House, and is involved in real estate opportunities around Yangon and Myanmar. He decided to put to good use a piece of land he got a hold of, just 5 minutes boat ride, across the Yangon river. Besides being the launch site for Bikarity, responsible local community exploration bike tours, he plans for a rather large organic vegetable garden to cover a large section of the land. Being a big foodie person, cooking classes amongst the veggie patch are in the works. Simon strongly supports the notion of sustainable tourism and has partnered with Mark and they have come up with a unique responsible plan to introduce visitors to experience what life is like living just across the river from the largest Myanmar city.

Mark von Sponeck has lived all over the world, mainly in Africa and Asia but also in the US and Europe. Mark is the co-founder of a non-profit organization called Global Nomads Group (gng.org) that connects hundreds of thousands of youth around the world to get them to learn about each others’ cultures and lives and to discuss important world issues. Mark would like to encourage respect between tourists and hosts and be a part of building up local pride and confidence. He has teamed up with Simon to launch the first Bikarity program.
